2021 Bookish Thoughts and Blog Update:

Hello bookish friends! it’s been a very long time since I have updated this blog, and i’m fairly certain the last time I said that very sentence I made a declaration to be more consistent with posting (I think it’s fair to say that that did not happen). I wish I had a better reason for you as to why but I don’t really know myself; I feel as though its a combination of motivation gone missing and not being 100% happy with this blog, but I guess they also go hand in hand. I’m hoping you follow my bookstagram account as I still post regularly on there, but lately i’ve missed writing. I have had that urge again to share all my bookish thoughts and i’m really not great with condensing a review; I feel in order to properly divulge my opinions I need a blank document and a proper keyboard for my chubby little fingers to just go wild on. And so here we are again.

Whilst I had a new found burst of inspiration for this site, I decided to channel some of that into its design and it’s new look has made me so much happier to continue writing here. It all feels like a fresh start and as its now 2021 (seriously I last updated this in 2020) I thought what better way than talking through this year’s Goodread’s goal, my most anticipated reads, and what i’m currently reading!

I initially debated having my Goodread’s goal much higher; mainly because I see so many other readers race through their challenges and I didn’t want to be seen as any less of a reader for having a shorter goal. I then realised that doesn’t really matter as long as i’m reading in the first place. So I quickly told myself to shut up and choose a number I would feel comfortable with and I landed on 50. I feel as though it is an achievable goal and if I happen to go over then it’s a bonus! And as of the 4th of March as i’m writing this, I am currently 3 books ahead of schedule (now that does give me a little boost)! I do actually have my Goodreads linked here too so if you want to see the books that I have read so far this year then please check that out. As for my current read it is actually my first read of March and i’m thoroughly enjoying it. The Grace Year by Kim Liggett is dystopian YA at it’s finest and it was definitely what the mood reader ordered. If you would like a review of this book please let me know in the comments as I would be happy to share my thoughts.

Ok, so what else am I looking forward to for this year? I have 3 books that I really cannot contain my excitement for and I’m so glad I get to share them here. The first is A Crown of Gilded Bones by J.L Armentrout which is the third instalment of the From Blood and Ash series. This series follows a curvy badass protagonist (hello body diversity) gain freedom, love, and hopefully in the next book, some much needed answers about her ancestry! Also, did I mention there were vampires and hot male characters? because thats a big selling point in my book. I’m just really looking forward to seeing more of the characters i’ve come to love with Poppy and Casteel and it comes out on April 20th.

The next read i’m super excited for is titled The Box in the Woods by Maureen Johnson. This is the 4th book in the Truly Devious series (i’m starting to see that I really like series) which weaves the mystery of the 1936 Ellingham kidnapping with the present day events at the same school. What I find really unique about this series is how the storylines are plotted throughout each book so you enter the next book with so many questions and an eagerness to find out what happens. Luckily for me I have still to read the 3rd book in the series which will kill some waiting time as this next one isn’t released until June 15th.

My last 2021 anticipated read is As Good as Dead by Holly Jackson which is (you guessed it) another series instalment. This will be the third book in the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series that follows a young investigative journalist Pip who uncovers deep hidden truths in her small town. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and read the second book as soon as it came out because I was so invested in the characters. I did a review of the first book which you can find on my review page, as the twists in this series left me reeling and in need of an outlet. It’s safe to say I’m looking forward to where else Jackson can take this series when it releases in August.

Here’s hoping I do write more and that I see you on the next one.

yours,

Glasshousesandbookshelves
